So who am I? Someone who cares passionately about Greenwich, its markets (all of them), its small businesses, its parks, its architecture, its history, its overall uniqueness and all the people who make it special. I will comment on anything that I feel threatens all that.
Sadly, I still can't tell you who I am, for the reasons given in one of my earliest posts (see Why is whistler anonymous).
Finally, a note on freedom, respect and privacy.
I allow everyone to comment on this site freely, without editing or deletion (even Pennypacker, who seems to think swearing in print is acceptable in a site open to all ages). I see this blog as a forum for all, and I do mean all, who wish to make their feelings known, whether I agree with them or not. I allow you to comment anonymously so you are free to say whatever you want (as long as it isn't libellous) without fear of ridicule or retribution. I may comment on what you say - that is my right as much as yours. I respect your right to anonymity and privacy and I don't think it's too much to ask that you respect mine.
Now please stop messing about and get back to saving Greenwich Market (and please don't swear).

Do you really believe in what you are saying? Use your brain for a minute.First you are publishing your one-sided comments, based on some weird gossip you may overhear (you do start you sentences from "I overheard") and then call yourself somebody who wants to save the market. It's ofensive. Very ofensive. What is your interest- the market or some twisted individual case scenarios that have nothing to do with developing the market. You are repeating over and over the same lame comment about saving the market, but what are your ideas of saving the market? Do you have any? Are you in favour of the system? Obviously not, so what is your suggestion? So far you've published some laughable stories with your direct personal agenta involved, but if you don't like it so much- what is it that you would like? And I don't mean another general answer about "saving the market". Did you even stop for a second and thought about it? If you are so excited and involved in the gossip- why don't you just go to the pub and indulge yourself in just that. If you want to be respected come up with something solid and what does make sense- criticism is good only if you can suggest a better option.
lol well said barmie
"Use your brain" Don't shoot the messenger
So what makes it so offensive & twisted to you, that somebody who cares about Greenwich, should open a forum to discuss what he /she sees as the deterioration over the years ; of Greenwich in general & the market in particular ???
Of course the Whistlers views are one sided -- for they are his views ( but they are shared by many ).
This blog on the other hand is not , as it allows you & Penny ( + others ) to have your say as well.
In having your say all you can do is to vilify the originator of the blog for opening Pandora's box.
Makes me wonder why you seem to take this as a personal attack.
So take your own advice & "come up with something solid" that makes sense.
Criticism is a good starting place !! If we can come to some consensus as to what's wrong & why, then we might find a way forward.
Head down , nose to the grindstone & blinkers on ( lest you see/hear something you might take personally).
So the Barmy army is on the march.
Love Greenwich

Yes Pennypacker and anonymous at the top of this page (although I think you are the same person), it does seem you are choosing to take this blog as a personal attack. To my mind this blog is a place for brainstorming and clearing the air. For example, do you agree then that the current banner signage about the food market represents the market to its best advantage? Are you happy with the way the redevelopment of the market is progressing - do you want to stand on Cutty Sark Gardens in a windy tent? Your own projection of critism is only good if you too can suggest better options than this blog when there are obviously problems that need to be addressed. Should we not all be working together?
Somebody said I may find some juicy info on this site- but this is so boring it puts me to sleep...
WHERE HAS THE WHISTLER GONE?
Alas, poor whistler! I knew him, well, anonymous a fellow of infinite
jest, of most excellent fancy.
farewell
Tinkerbell
He / she may be on holiday. Come back whistler.
I agree with Qianhong - first lets see what is wrong...
Whistler, you are a market trader, and that's final! But hats off to you!
You are not a shopkeeper, not on the staff of GSM/USM, not an employee of the Hospital, not an employee of NBRE, not a journalist, not a restaurateur, not a publican, not somebody obsessed with their personal profits, not Sugar Plum Fairy.
You are...A MARKET TRADER!
Another moron. Did you bother to read the post to which your comment refers?
Dear Whistler, please rethink this freedom of speech thing - there are lots who have no respect for the privilege you have given them.
Maybe we should take away the comments of those who are racist, homophobic etc. They don't deserve the space on the page.
I agree, there should be groundrules. Contributors should be worn that comments that include any swearing, name calling, or racist/xenophobic remarks will not be published in this blog. Everybody has a right to their opinion but in a civilized manner. It is a blog for a good cause not for people to vent offensive remarks.
I still really want to know what has happened to Ben. If GSM have got rid of him then they really have gone mental. He is their most professional and hardworking member of staff. He should be the Manager. Have you noticed the chaos since he has been gone? No offence to the others - Ben is just better at the job than they are.
I think his failing was people really liked him. He mucked in on all level's he was easy to approach and you got a straight answer in a couple of minutes . Not the most creative of people which I'm sure he would admit but a fantastic people person. Great for a market team I would of thought!I think there has been a major error of judgement if he has been sacked but what do I know I.m just a stall holder!!!
