That's an interesting point. The way I see it, the Coach isn't blameless. Replacing verdant greenery and hanging baskets with the world's most hideous hanging gas heaters takes a strange kind of vision. Those vile glass screens are another sign of a taste bypass. Still - keeps the proles (a.k.a. market traders) out.
The Coach is now another cog in Greenwich Inc's machine. Some their other outlets have had the Lawrence Llewelyn‐Bowen touch - I guess he would disown this one.
However, I tend towards the view that Greenwich Hospital have to shoulder most of the blame. Presumably they ordered the removal of all greenery, the repainting of the whole place in cold blue and white, and approved the Coach's repulsive screens and heaters. If not them, then who?
What concerns me the most, as well as the dull aesthetics, is the lack of atmosphere throughout the whole market. The noise level is quiet, not the usual hum of a market place. I personally feel this is due to lowering footfall leading to lowering takings mixed with lack of respect towards the traders which all leads to low morale and and and and
Hi there. I'm the Greenwich Whistler and I'm the founder of the We Love Greenwich Market blog. Why am I doing this? Well, I've been a visitor to Greenwich Market for more than twenty years and I still visit the market often. In recent years I've become aware of a decline in the market – in its variety of quality goods, its energy, the mood of its traders and its atmosphere. External events have brought it low; internal attacks even lower. Its future is threatened by even more destructive forces. It may be too late, but I love Greenwich Market and I won't see it destroyed because I couldn't be bothered to try to save it.

And I'm speechless too! I can't believe the difference. A speechless resident!
Wow! From warm and friendly to cold and hostile. I wonder who to blame most - The pub's landlord or the market owners.

Miss management at it's finest...
it's like a 60's farce -
"Carry on Up The Market" just think...Sid James as manager, heaven.
And I remember the days when we had hanging baskets going round the whole market. They looked beautiful at this time of year.
I am also horrified! Where to have nice drink in a nice surrounding?
Look at the state of the Hardy, another fine pub Frank-o-fied to a disgusting cheap and tacky looking hole.
Who rmembers listening to impromptue Glen Tilbrook sessions back when it was a PUB!
Shame Greenwich Shame!
