Secondly, I really must apologise to GSM for not recognising their outstanding effort in erecting new banners.
It's just such a pity that they're crap. For a visitor to get the full message they must walk the length of the centre aisle, eyes up, reading every sign. What dingbat came up with that idea? A visitor, who had walked from one end of the market to the other, was heard to say "What a pity they don't have any signs to tell us when it's open".
I know it's a dreadful challenge to appreciate the obvious way to do things, but previous management saw the light and I duplicated their solution on this very blog. Something like this:

I like the new signs and can't agree with you.
They give the sense that something is happening each day:the sign that you are fond of is far less dynamic.
I've been trading over two years and remember dozens of people asking "what time is the market open to?" and "on what days are you open?" This was in the days of the sign which had all the information! Any trader will confirm that it's just part of market life and no amount of signage is going to stop the questioning.
I am in no way pro management, having been treated very shabbily on numerous occasions, I just feel this is the best solution so far.
Hey Dingbat, I'm with Whistler on this one.
At the moment if you want to get all the info you have to walk the length of the market looking up at each sign & as you pass under one you have to look back to make sure it doesn't say something different on the other side.
I'd like to see our visitors checking out the wonderful goods we have on offer, rather than having to scrutinise every sign.
What a pain in the neck!!
I agree that the old sign was no masterpiece & could have been done a lot better. But the idea behind it was right on target - to give all the information in one go, so that our visitors could get on with enjoying themselves - having a bite to eat & buying a few bits & bobs.
If the clock isn't coming back [ pity ], how about a 3 or 4 sided sign/centrepiece that gives all the info on each panel - then a sign at the 3 main entrances.
A centrepiece sign would be great for people to get their bearings & arrange to meet.
In my opinion, good looking signs that give all the info in one go is what we need.
Got to get on , as I've an empire to build.

I've been trading at the Market for many years and probably been asked 'What time does the Market open to?' once !! I will wait with anticipation for the day new signs are displayed as my profits will surely skyrocket with the cries of "Oh look, now we know what time it opens and closes... Hooray for simple and informative signage! Lets all visit the Market with a bundle of cash".
I personally feel that we need large signs on each entrance around the one-way system 'introducing' the Market. I feel that from a visitors/tourists point of view how do they know the Market is there as it is tucked away in a hidden island.
Hooray for the person above!! How true!!! We need signs on all the entrances, visable from the one way system. Why oh why does it all have to be so complicated?
We all have a different experience, but I get asked all the time about when the market is open to. Plus "Are you here everyday?" and "where are the toilets/ cash machine!"
Lest we forget- one trader was asked whether she had any square hats because the customer thought she had a square head..
Bob Khan is right, we all have had different experiences, I get asked all the time- what time the market is open, what days it is open, what days you can find what, what time it closes and I provide all this information with pleasure. I'd rather they ask me than them having to strain their necks and eyes looking at posters hanging from the roof- sometimes I think it's a wonder that they found the market in the first place!

Do you read previous posts?
Hi Jemima, what ever happened to Imran ? ex-cricketer & Pakistani politician.
All seems very quiet on the north west frontier. -- What's he up to these days ?
Are GSM handling his publicity campaign as well?
Anyway just wanted to say that I agree with my father Tolui - see above.
What we need are clear signs that give you all the information at once!
And yes [Hooray for simple and informative signage! ] we also need a wider publicity campaign to get people into the market.
We could paint a whopper of a sign on the market roof so that the tourists can see it from the air as they fly into Heathrow & then great big banners at the airport advertising Greenwich market and how to get there------ Father always told me to think BIG.
Got to go as the Empire doesn't look after itself.

Very very funny! You lot are all bonkers!
God, if we'd all thought about this earlier, we could have had a sign at the opening ceremony of the Olympics yesterday.
As it is in a island, the inside of Greenwich Market also can be very confusing , specially after one zigzags its way through and looses direction of which entrance/exit is which. Each entrance should have a name such as "north entrance", "west entrance" or someother reference to help customers/tourists less familiar with the market to know their whereabouts inside the market. If people feel lost and confused they will not enjoy the experience, and perhaps not want to repeat it.
Kompatriot Kublai!
How goes it?
I haven't spoken to Imran in years! He grew mad with power.. (ahem!)
I agree with the idea of entrances. Strangely enough, I feel I must somehow be near the back entrance...
Back to signs!
I'd still like to get my hands on those receipts claiming £30,000 was spent on 'promotions' for the market and £18000 on 'rental equipment'! Proof please!!!
